Artist Note

Boats are a subject I return to again and again. I’ve really tried to analyse my fascination with these and I think it comes back to one of my earliest memories of the estuary in Penclawdd where i was born. It would have been a familiar sight to see small boats beached up on the mud (coupled with the smell of cockles boiling in huge vats from the processing sheds on the estuary) and the crunch, crunch of hundreds of thousands of cockle shells underfoot.
