A favourite walk and picnic spot for my parents and siblings in the Forties and Fifties. The youngest child travelled by pram, under a pile of bathing and picnic gear. We swam in the waves and jumped off The Devil’s Bed. Intrepid adventurers.  I once swam to Skerries, a young Johnny Weissmuller in the sinuous current. The wet sand mirrored the white farm and Curlew Cottage. You had to paint it. I still do.
